Helpful Tips for Driving with Your Dog

When you have a dog, you want to be able to bring them with you everywhere. But some dogs are less comfortable in the car than others, and you always want to make sure that your dog is safe while you are on the road. There are a few things you can do to make sure your dog is safe and happy in the car, so you can bring them on adventures with you all the time.

Keep Them Safe

Your dog’s safety is the most important thing in the car, and many people don’t know how to go about keeping them safe.  Having a hammock over your seats is a good start as it can keep them contained in the back of your vehicle. It is also a good idea to make sure that your dog has a seatbelt that connects to their harness, this can prevent them from getting badly injured if you are in an accident. Keeping your dog off your lap is another important thing that can keep everyone a little safer.

Avoid Getting Them All Over Your Car

If your dog can freely move around your whole car it can be a problem for everyone. Try to keep them contained in a particular area so they are safer and cause less trouble in your vehicle. This can also help to reduce mess in your car as well. Baking soda can help reduce pet odors if you leave an open box of it in your car in a place where your pet can’t get to it. Keeping things clean will make for less stress for everyone.

Bring Good Treats

Your dog will be a lot more comfortable if they have access to treats they enjoy. Make sure that you’re being high value treats in the car, especially if your dog is anxious about car rides. At the same time, you don’t want to over feed your dog in the car as it can lead to them getting motion sick. If you do notice your dog seems queasy, take time out of the car to give them a break.

Being in the car with your dog can actually be enjoyable if you help them to feel comfortable. Try to make the car a positive experience, so your dog doesn’t dread going on car rides. By getting your dog in the car more often, you can help them to enjoy being in the car even more.
